Algarinejo is in Granada province, set in the hills midway between Iznajar and Montefrio. It is some 15km or 20 minutes away from Cortijo las Rosas by car. It is still a very Spanish village with narrow winding roads and few expatriate residents. There is an Information Centre in the town square run by two local British residents where you can buy second hand books and obtain details of local activities.
There is the large 18th Century Church of Santa Maria la Mayor which is worth a look in the charming town square. It is an enormous building for such a relatively small village. The Hermitage of Santo Christo was built in 1730 can also be visited, as well as the Parish House which is a wonderfully preserved 19th century residence.
There are several bars serving drinks and tapas and meals. Just off the town square, Restaurante Casa Piolas serves very good food in the nouvelle cuisine style.
