We enjoyed 2 weeks at Casita Perdiz the accommodation and hospitality of the owners Gillian, Marylynne and Steve was exceptional. Cortijo Las Rosas is an ideal base to explore this region of Andalucia. We particularly enjoyed relaxing by the pool and admiring the views across the valley. The owners were always on hand to offer advice on the area such as where to eat, what shops were available and how to get there. One of the highlights of our visit was a meal at Casa Piolas in Algarinejo arranged by the owners which was superb
We had a truly wonderful stay at Cortijo las Rosas at the end of May 2016. Our hosts, Gillian and Marylynne (and Marylynne’s husband Steve) couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating, especially with our two children aged 11 and 8! For the children, the pool and outside dining area, complete with inflatibles and board games, was the highlight of their holiday, along with the resident dogs Lulu and Snookie! Gillian and Marylynne have lovingly created such a beautiful landscaped outside area, with amazing views of the valley and the olive groves, that you could quite easily spend everyday relaxing there by the pool! The holiday casitas are also beautifully furnished and well equipped that you can spend quality time at las Rosas itself and not need to go sightseeing! But we do advise that you do as the area is stunning!
The nearest town is the picturesque hill town of Iznajar, overlooking the beautiful reservoir, the views of which from the top of the town are breathtaking! the nearest main town with a great supermarket for your supplies is Priego de Cordoba. we followed Gillian and Marylynne’s advice and parked in the supermarket carpark and explored the town before we shopped. It is a pretty town with amazing architecture and a beautiful fountain … they also have the best Churros! and we did try a few! We also recommend Cordoba for a huge slice of Tortilla and a cold cerveza with the locals from Bar Santos, outside the Mezquita with the locals, followed by a walk and an ice-cream in the Patio de los Naranjos. And if you don’t mind the drive, you must visit the Alhambra in Granada – “the love letter to Moorish culture”- it is enchanting and a pilgrimage to many.. so do book your tickets before your trip as it is very popular!
All in all we are smitten with Southern Spain and will return to explore further…and we would highly recommend las Rosas to anyone wanting a tranquil haven to explore from.
If you are looking for an incredible piece of Spanish paradise away from the hustle and bustle of the over-populated, maddening tourist holiday spots, this is definitely the best place to go. Arriving after a stunning drive through mountains of olive trees stretching out as far as the eye can see, we reached the beautifully restored Cortijo located in a spectacular location surrounded by olive trees and a gorgeous, well-established garden filled with lush plants, herbs, and abundant wildlife. We felt like there was no one around for miles, and the views are awe inspiring. We stayed in the lovely Casita Galgo, which is split over two floors and has it’s own little private terrace and barbecue. The little touches throughout the casita and the whole property are superb -from all the thoughtful finishings, a huge comfy bed with cosy bedding, a welcome basket with delicious olives, nuts and wine, and a fully equipped kitchen ready for us to cook in. Everything made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. The rest of the facilities are fantastic too and the pool area is splendid. An ideal spot to spend hours lounging around and enjoy the Spanish countryside ambience. The amazing hosts, Gillian, Marylynne and Steve are the most wonderful people – friendly, kind, and generous. From the moment we arrived, they did absolutely everything to make us feel welcome and provide help and advice whenever this was needed. And to add to it, Steve (Marylynne’s husband) even invited my husband to join him at the local pub to watch a game of soccer. An experience he thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated. Our stay at Cortijo Las Rosas was everything we hoped it would be and more – a chance to really relax, unwind and soak up the glorious Spanish sunshine. We highly recommend this as a brilliant getaway for those who want a true Spanish experience in an ideal location with incredibly marvellous hosts!! We can’t wait to return some day.
We loved our stay in Casa Liebre. The hosts were very welcoming, the location idyllic and the accommodation very cosy. Our two girls (12 and 10) had great fun with all of the poolside games and even managed a dip in the pool. We enjoyed exploring the region and were grateful for the thoughtful recommendations. We hope to return.
We had a fantastic week at the Cortijo in July. The Cortijo itself was beautiful. We stayed in Casita Galgo, which is split over two floors and has a nice little terrace with a barbecue. The pool was lovely too. It’s a very peaceful setting and we found it a perfect getaway from the city. It’s well located for day trips too. Marylynne and Gillian were helpful and friendly hosts. We loved it, and we can’t recommend it enough.
This amazing place was perfect with its traditional cottages and fabulous hosts, where nothing was to much trouble. A car is a must however the surrounding areas were perfect for exploring and the village was a short 20 min walk away. My mum who is in her 70’s, and has difficulty walking, enjoyed every minute even though the terrain was challenging for her and would visit this fabulous place in a heartbeat. This is a perfect retreat to get away from modern life, to collect yourself and breath…………. We are looking forward to our return.
We are a fairly active couple who have just returned from an excellent 2-week holiday staying in Casita Liebre, one of the 3 properties of Cortija Las Rosas. We spent our time cycling, walking, touring, lying by the pool, drinking the very good, local (2 euro) wine and eating –self catering in our villa and dining out at local restaurants. Throughout our stay we were made to feel very welcome by the owners, Gillian, Mary Lynne and Steve, who stay in the adjoining farmhouse and were on hand to provide help and advice whenever this was needed. Our impression from the moment we arrived until we left was that they really cared that we had a good holiday and enjoyed our stay there. Casita Liebre itself had been recently sensitively restored and had 2 large bedrooms, each with adjoining bathrooms. The garden area surrounding the 3 casitas was carefully tended and maintained. The clear work and effort involved in this had paid off, as the gardens were lovely with flowers in bloom and fruit such as figs and pomegranates starting to ripen. The pool was shared with the other 2 casitas, although for much of the time we had the area to ourselves. The villa was in a very quiet location with no roads or settlements nearby to disturb the peace. Being situated in the hills, the local climate was slightly cooler than the surrounding lower lying region, however it was still comfortably warm at 25 – 30°C most days (early September). This made it a more suitable climate for cycling, although the roads around the villa have some x-rated hills, not least the one coming up from Iznajar, which hit 18% in some sections. In fact there is very little ‘flat’ cycling around, so fairly good fitness is required if you intend to hit the roads on one of Steve’s bikes. Steve is a cyclist himself and kindly took us out on a couple of local routes to show us what the area had to offer. The nearest local village was only approx. 20 minutes’ walk from the villa, but in reality a car was essential for getting around. The villa was sited about 500 metres down an unmade track, quite steep in parts and good ground clearance on the car was useful. The WiFi reception was a bit patchy, not problem for us or anyone else who may want a break from the interweb, but could be for those with teenage offspring. In summary we really enjoyed our break at Cortija las Rosas and would be happy to recommend a stay to friends and relatives.
My partner, Gareth, & I took my mother who was visiting us from NZ to spend a week relaxing in Andalucia with some exploration of the region thrown into the mix. Our week staying in the Cortijo was superb – the service from Gillian and Marylynne was excellent – always going that extra mile to make us welcome and ensure we had the most fabulous experience. The drive to get there is adventurous – and worth making the effort.
The accommodation was beautiful, spacious, clean and well set out for the three of us to balance spending quality time together and having room to take our own time out. We enjoyed cooking in the well-supplied kitchen, eating in our private courtyard, playing in the pool either by ourselves or talking with the small number of other Cortijo guests and playing games together in our private living space. Given the temperatures of a late Spanish summer we were impressed with how cool it was inside our Casita plus having the benefit of fans if required. We were able to completely switch off.
At my request Gillian happily arranged for us to go to a mind-blowing restaurant 20 minutes drive away including a taxi to & from so we could all celebrate together, a local masseuse to come to the Cortijo so we could relax whilst being pampered, and on one evening a local dinner in the nearest village.
We did 3 day trips – the first was to Seville (2.5 hours drive away), the second to Granada to explore the Alhambra (1.5 hours drive away) and the third to Ronda (2 hours drive away). We also went down to Iznajar (10-15 minutes drive along a winding road) to appreciate the beauty of the lake and village.
We were thrilled with our time here and recommend staying here! Go, relax and definitely request to have an evening arranged for a degustation experience as we did!
Our stay at Cortijo las Rosas was just what we expected: a peaceful moment. Away from the town and the road, it is very quiet, surrounded by olive trees. The view by the pool is by the way just incredible.
The casita is fully equipped (the kitchen has more utensils than our own!) and Gillian and Marylynne thought about everything to make our live easier and stressless. The optional welcome pack is big and delicious, with local products.
Gillian and Marylynne are absolutely adorable, which makes it even more enjoyable to stay there.
Definitely a place to spend time to rest and enjoy life.
Formidable!
We spent ten days at Casita Perdiz … We have only one desire: to go back … We found it a very comfortable cottage, very clean, in a very pleasant and quiet situation … beneficial hosting Marylynne and Gillian are also great: they are lovely and very caring … A place not to miss to recharge …
